Have you found your reason of living?
“...But if it dies...” John 12:24 NKJV
Have You Found Your Reason for Living?
One day a depressed woman jumped off a bridge into a river. Without thinking, a man standing nearby jumped in to save her. But ‘our hero’ suddenly remembered that he couldn’t swim, so he started thrashing around and screaming for help! Hearing his cries, the depressed woman swam to his rescue, hauled him out, administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and saved his life. What happened? She found a need greater than her own, and in so doing she found a reason to live. Jesus said, ‘...Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies [to self-interest], it produces much grain.’ Christ had just finished saying, ‘...”Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing”’ (Luke 12:22-23 NKJV).
Career success and material things cannot be your reason for living! You need a larger purpose, and God will give you one if you ask Him. Some of us are born knowing what God has called us to do in life; others discover it along the way. Some of us actually find it in our closing years. Indeed, some of us are awakened to it by tragedy and loss. What matters is that we find God’s purpose and pour ourselves into it. Helen Keller wrote, ‘When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which God has opened for us.’ So, have you found your reason for living?

In loving memory of Uncle John
I used to see him around a lot when I was younger because he would be the answer to everything that went wrong in my parents’ home. He was the first person we would call when something wasn’t working or a fixture addition was required. So it wasn’t strange that even after I got married, Uncle John continued to be the “answer” to everything that went physically wrong in the house be it a plumbing issue or a shift of built in cabinets or wiring repairs.
And there is a reason for this….out of about thousands of people that have the skill set to fix things or come up with practical household solutions, why is that I (as well as many others in this room tonight) have always called Uncle John?
For me, it is simply because he was trustworthy and reliable. I know that whenever I call, Uncle John would come and help me solve it. He would provide us with correct identification of the problem, choices of solutions at reasonable prices. We always left our house keys to him and went to work. And that may seem like something trivial to some. But to me, that speaks out qualities such as honesty and integrity. In all my years of knowing Uncle John, he has always been very mild tempered and pretty good natured.
I still remember when I was pregnant with my daughter - Uncle John told my husband that I had to be careful not to go smell cement as cement had a lot of bad chemicals which would badly affect the baby. So this man who was the handyman eventually became a personal family friend.
So tonight I stand here and have to be honest that it will be strange to live without having the ability to pick up the phone and call this reliable family friend ever again. Uncle John’s sudden passing saddens me greatly. However, I take heart to know that one day I will meet him again in heaven.

Life
I've learned that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.
I've learned that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. The same goes for true love.
I've learned that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.
I've learned that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.
I've learned that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.
I've learned that you can keep going long after you can't.
I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.
I've learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.
I've learned that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.
I've learned that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.
I've learned that money is a lousy way of keeping score.
I've learned that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.
I've learned that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.
I've learned that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.
I've learned that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.
I've learned that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them, and less to do with how many years you have lived.
I've learned that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.
I've learned that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.
I've learned that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.
I've learned that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do love each other.
I've learned that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.
I've learned that two people can look at the same thing and see something totally different.
I've learned that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.
I've learned that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you you will find the strength to help.
I've learned that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.
I've learned that the people you care about most in life are sometimes taken from you too soon.
I've learned that you cannot make someone love you.
All you can do is be someone who can be loved.
The rest is up to them.

Remembering 2009
(1) I went thru my first ever surgery - not an experience I would ever want to go through again.
(2) Nov'09 marked my first anniversary in raising a teenage boy! Most people are rather presumptious that just because one has been the head of a youth group and a youth cell leader for years automatically means one has the "knowledge" and skills set required to "raise" a teenager. I have to refute this assumption thoroughly. Conclusion to the experience thus far - PARENTING is tough....and sticking together as a family takes a whole different meaning altogether....but in a good sense, it has given me a chance to reflect on my values system & test whether I would stick to them when times are tough.
(3)My first wedding anniversary. No offense, some people claim that the first year of marriage is a honeymoon year. I can't really agree though. I would say I feel like an old married couple sometimes with all the chores & BILLS!!! Oh, but I definitely think marriage is way better than the courtship phase =). So for all those couples out there who are in their courtship phase & of marriageable age, er don't wait forever to tie the knot. MARRIAGE ROCKS!
(4) I am officially 4 months pregnant today =). I have to say that the pregnancy was a pleasant surprise. A bit overwhelming sometimes when I am looking at baby items. A little scary also cos soon I will get my chance to er "bring a life into the world" and this all seems very much like a dream which I am sure will pop once I hear the baby crying ;)
(5) Meng Hong & I started a Young Adults cell group in our home. We had prayed about it for some time and finally made that decision & not long after that found out I was preggie. Initially, I thought God was doing one of his testing stunts but I guess I decided not to figure out whether He was testing me. Instead decided that in whatever circumastance, we would still want to give our best to Him and ask for His providence for our lives together as a family.
Alright another proof that I am getting older is that I can't blog for long. It tires me. Hehehehe....So I guess this summarizes the highlights of 2009. Looking forward to a great 2010! BRING IT ON!!!!

Philippines braces for another storm
By Raju Gopalakrishnan Raju Gopalakrishnan – Tue Sep 29, 12:43 am ET
MANILA (Reuters) – Philippine authorities braced on Tuesday for another storm as the death toll from rain and floods from a weekend typhoon, now bearing down on Vietnam, rose to 240.
Weather forecasters said a new storm forming in the Pacific Ocean was likely to enter Philippine waters on Thursday and make landfall later in the week on the northern island of Luzon, just like Saturday's Typhoon Ketsana.
Ketsana dumped more than a month's worth of average rainfall on Manila and surrounding areas in one 24-hour period. About 80 percent of the city of 15 million was flooded.
Authorities estimated damage from the storm so far at around 2.34 billion pesos ($50 million). More than 1.8 million people were affected and 375,000 had abandoned their homes and taken refuge in evacuation centers.
The death toll could rise further once reports come in from remote areas. The storm hit metropolitan Manila and 12 provinces.
"For casualties, the increase will be not as great, but the damage figures may increase," Defence Secretary Gilbert Teodoro told a news conference on Tuesday.
"Even opportunity loss of revenues for establishments, that alone would amount to hundreds of millions at least per day."
VIETNAM NEXT
Ketsana is now likely to make landfall in central Vietnam later on Tuesday, where authorities have ordered the evacuation of at least 170,000 people.
Hundreds of soldiers were helping evacuate people and with storm preparations. Ships have been told to take shelter in Danang. Vietnam Airlines has canceled all fights to the port city since Monday and schools in several coastal provinces were closed.
In the Philippines, authorities released water from Angkat dam north of Manila, but stressed it was being done carefully to prevent any recurrence of floods.
"Angat opened their gates slowly just to keep it at spilling level and the effect would be minimal," Teodoro said.
Communist rebels announced a unilateral ceasefire with government forces and ordered cadres to help in flood relief operations.
Private citizens and volunteer groups were collecting relief goods -- mostly clothes, drinking water and medicines -- and distributing them to victims. Many people have thrown open their homes to those who were forced to abandon theirs.
U.S. soldiers deployed in the south of the country have been brought to Manila to help in relief, while the United Nations has announced it will give food aid and cash for medical supplies.
The government has come in for scathing criticism for its response to the disaster, with many calling it inadequate and delayed.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has called the typhoon "an extreme event that has strained our response capabilities to the limit."
"But it is not breaking us," she said in a statement on Monday, after opening the presidential palace for relief efforts.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime typhoon."
But analysts say the floods have worsened the reputation of Arroyo, who has been accused of corruption and poll fraud, and that it could affect the prospects of Teodoro, the administration candidate, in the May 2010 presidential election.

Benefits of Eating COD FISH
[taken from Hubpages, article written by Shannon Clark]
Cod is a white fish that is mild flavoured and available throughout the entire year. It belongs to the same family as the haddock and monkfish and is deep is a deep fish sea from the Artic waters.
Along with 29 grams of protein and 119 calories for a four once serving, cod provides the following other health benefits.
Cardiovascular Health Improvements
Cod has been shown to be one of the best meat sources in terms of reducing atherosclerosis and heart disease in those who have diabetes. Those consuming cod as a regular part of their diet also have a decreased risk of heart attack than those who don't and also show a greater likelihood of meeting their vitamin B12 needs as cod is high in that nutrient as well. Vitamin B12 along with vitamin B6, also found in cod, are important in helping to keep homocysteine levels low. This is a molecule that is related to the blood vessel walls and when seen in high proportions can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Increase Heart Muscle Function
Because cod is a source of Omega-3 fatty acids it will significantly help to improve the functioning of the human heart muscle therefore helping to protect you from experiencing an ischemic stroke. In one study comparing those who at fish and those who did not, it was seen that the risk of ischemic stroke decreased by 9% in those who ate omega-3 fatty acid rich fish 1-3 times per month, 13% in those who ate the fish at least once per week, 18% in those who ate the fish 2-4 times per week and 31% in those who consumed fish five times per week or more. This demonstrates that the more you choose to consume fish in your daily diet the better off you will be.
Along with decreasing the risk of ischemic stroke, consuming a fish rich diet will also help to lower your triglyceride levels, giving you a better cholesterol profile (high in HDL and low in LDL)
Skin Protection
Finally a third reason why consuming a cod rich diet is a good idea is that the fish can help to have anti-inflammatory effects on the body and help to protect against sunburn and potentially even skin cancer.
Because the ozone is becoming more and more depleted as time goes on, it is becoming increasingly important to take measures to protect our skin from the sun's damaging affects. Because when UV-B radiation strikes the skins surface inflammation occurs, anything that will help reduce this inflammation will work towards solving this issue, cod being the perfect example.
So next time you are trying to choose what to cook for dinner, consider baking up some cod. Not only does it taste great but it's a perfect food for weight loss since it's low calories and also allows you to achieve optimum health.

In This Land
We went to Georgetown Baptist Church (GBC) on Sunday for service and without fail, every time I step inside that church, I am thoroughly blessed by just being there. Their simplicity and sincerity always amazes me. And this time, God had a treat for us.
There was a song presentation by some of the youths. The message behind the lyrics was simply powerful and a great reminder to us all. Lyrics of the song is as written below:
Title: In This Land
Composer: Jeremy Ng (GBC)
In this land, I will praise.
This is where You rule and reign.
In this land, I will stay.
May Your glory fill this place.
There is a calling for every man.
A greater purpose in the Maker’s hand.
Will you hear the call?
Will you take your stand?
As a people of this land.
In this land, I will serve.
This is where I’ll pour out my love.
In this land, I will pray.
May Your glory fill this place.
There is a calling for every man.
A greater purpose in the Maker’s hand.
Will you hear the call?
Will you take your stand?
As a people of this land.
Malaysia for Your glory.

Genuine Faith
By Micca Monda Campbell
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” Titus 3:5 (NKJV)
Devotion:
Today if you were to ask someone what a genuine Christian is, you might hear something like this: “They are someone who is at church every time the doors open. They serve on committees, teach Sunday school, sing in the choir, feed the hungry and pray for the needy. They never get discouraged, never doubt, but have little time for fun. They’re too busy working for the Lord.”
I think Satan has deceived us with the illusion that a busy Christian is a genuine Christian. It’s just not true. Don’t misunderstand. I’m not saying these are not good things to do, but I fear we’ve turned our walk with God into a frenzied pace by adding to our faith a lot of extra baggage that we don’t need. We need to get back to real, genuine faith.
The trouble is we are no different than the Galatians. They started with faith, but then added works as well. In Galatians 3:3, Paul asks the people this question: “Have you lost your senses? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?” (NLT). Good question. I can’t tell you how long I lived doing that same thing. I tried to live for God by my own efforts instead of allowing Him to live in and through me by faith.
Genuine faith is not about doing. It’s about believing God. It’s a relationship between us and God that begins by faith, is lived by faith, and ends in faith. It’s that simple. Everything else - such as good works - flows from the source of this relationship.
However, some Christians fall into the trap of organized religion instead of practicing simple, genuine faith. This kind of oppression is growing in our world today because nothing is simple anymore, especially our faith. We do a lot of extra stuff for all the wrong reasons, such as impressing others or trying to win God’s approval. It’s not that we shouldn’t do good deeds, but we need to ask ourselves, “Why am I doing what I’m doing, and who am I doing it for?”. We just might surprise ourselves with the answer.
Life is heavy enough with the responsibilities God has given us. I’m finding that people today are burned out from trying to do it all and then feeling guilty because they can’t. I know. I was a lot like the The Little Engine That Could. Do you remember that children’s story? At some point in my life, I adopted the engine’s motto as my life’s purpose. “I think I can, I think I can…” Whenever someone asked me to do something - especially at church - I quickly responded, “I think I can!” Only to discover, I can’t do it all.
I had the same problem that plagued the Galatians. I was practicing religion instead of relationship.
Genuine faith is not a long list of performances we do to try to impress others or even God. It’s about maintaining our relationship with God. This is the secret to the Christian life. If you and I will daily stay connected to our source, then the natural outcome will be a simple life of genuine faith.
Dear Lord, I humbly lay all my works, efforts, and life before You today. I long to pursue You. Draw me closer to You, Lord. Teach me to live by simple, genuine faith in You alone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Where is my heart?
I had been a cell leader for 11 years and a youth worker for more than that. I had what church leaders would call as "moving forward" yet from where I am standing now, I realised I cared less and less cos I was so focused on the task at hand, the next outreach event, the committee runnings, the next outreach lunch, my exams, then came my audit deadlines, and the list goes on and on.
It was also this time I had this question which I'd asked myself whether it mattered to me if today I was not chairman, if I were not a cell leader, if I were not in everything which someone else dictated as important, would I still serve, would I still care when the world did not see it? Would Meng Yoe, or Kenneth, or Josh still be my brothers/ good friends if I were not all these? Would I be loved any less? Would I be more of myself? Would God be pleased with me? Tons of questions running through my head in the last 8 months prior and throughout the time I had stepped down.
Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that one should not serve in a capacity, or one should not be a cell leader but more than the position, personally for me, there were all these questions running through my mind and I desperately wanted to know the answer for my own sanity and to face the truth.
Many have been answered and the testimony of God's goodness in my life is something I hold very dear. I guess this time of stepping back was a good break from the usual hustle and bustle. It has also been a very faith challenging time and a pride breaking process.
I am grateful that God had given me the chance to step back to re-align myself with His purposes. This year I've spend more time to with some of my closest friends eg Pritam, Li-Ann (pre wedding times....we seriously need to catch up), had time to run around and do the things people should do visit the sick, teach those who require help, attend friends' loved ones funeral, talk to my grandma, do grocery shopping, share the gospel, be there for friends' on the important times and most of all, to find myself again. To remember that the things that should matter in life do matter -integrity, love, passion, and Jesus.
"Purpose serves as a principle around which to organize our lives." - Anonymous.
"Our deeds determine us, as much as we determine our deeds." - George Elliot.
"We were not sent into this world to do anything into which we can not put our heart." - John Ruskin.
May we always have the "heart" element in the things we do.

Do I Make You Proud?
My latest observation was the irony of seeing him having to be part of something, declaring to the world his love for his parents and asking them, whether he makes them proud in front of a crowd of 800+ persons is not what I had in mind as therapeutic for anyone who has been through what he has been through.
I was told he was "encouraged" to be involved at the very last juncture. (This last minute habit confirms the right decision to walk out cos they never seem to learn so as long as it isn't some important persons' cell member. Sigh). And so there he was to sing to his dead parents whilst the world never cared an ounce of his feelings.
Today I look at him with more admiration than the day before, for I see someone who has braced through much insensitivity and wasn't given much 2nd thought.
For some are called leaders for positions bestowed to them. For others, they are leaders for they battle to live the best they can in the worst of conditions. They make a difference in their own little way though they are not committe members nor popularised by others nor hold fancy positions. They are the unsung heroes.
Whoever is providing leadership needs to be as fresh and thoughtful and reflective as possible to make the very best fight. - Faye Wattleton.
His brother and I are very proud of him.
And I am sure his parents are VERY PROUD of him
For all of us, the question should not be about whether we hold a position or not but whether we are worthy of our call.
p/s: the irony of the song chosen is that it was the very song his brother dedicated to his mother when she had just gone to heaven.

Together
We're also coping and adjusting to running a home together. Let's say that having your own home is no joke what with bills and more bills to pay. Also trying first hand at cooking (though this isnt my favourite part of the job). To cope with the financial responsibilities, MH and I give tuition, run an accesories blog and a one off time whereby I marked Sunway TES ACCA internal papers. So every week is such busyness, it's unbelievable.
Some people think we're being dished money to us. Some others just cant be bothered. And sometimes...just random moments....I am envious of the lives of others but then I am reminded that I am afterall, married to the man I love and I would not have wanted it any other way.
My couzy messaged me today and said, "1 envy u being home with family and have a man that adores u" and "u have a good life and u are doing a good thing by raising mh's bro".
Thanks for the encouragement. Sometimes it gets overwhelming and I wonder whether I'll make it through till the end. Sometimes we cry together cos we aren't sure whether there is going to be enough. Sometimes we worry cos we wonder whether MC will turn out alright. Sometimes we wish we had a whole lot more. Sometimes we wish things were different.
However, I am reminded once again, we have much to be grateful for. We have each other. Reading MH's blog entry dated 05 February 2007 and it is entitled "Together" and it has this in bold " Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success". and it continues to with :
"I am glad that we are together and walking towards the same direction, Grace. =)"
To my darling husband:
I am glad that we are together, dear and walking towards the same direction.
We'll pul through this together.

A testimony by one of the baptism candidates in GBC
I have three sons and a daughter. My husband passed away five years ago. My daughter and son-in-law's family are all Christians. They always shared the gospel with me and played CDs for me to listen to. Once in awhile, I followed them to church. The people there were very friendly and warm, but I did not feel anything special. I thought that all religions were the same, telling people to do good.
Among my children, the one whom I worried about the most was my eldest son, Soon Leong Hooi. He used to drink a lot and would get drunk. He had a bad temper and was always fighting. My daughter had been telling him that only Jesus can change his life. One day, he told me that he wanted to accept Jesus too. So I agreed with him and accepted Jesus at the same time. Under the pastor's guidance, we went through the sinner's prayer, and we became Christians. The pastor helped me to remove the idols at home.
From that day onwards, we have been to church services every week. Entering the church makes me happy. Now, I do not understand why I refused to attend church services before, despite having been invited by so many people. After a period of time, miracles happened. My eldest son stopped drinking and his temper was in control. Then lately, he stopped smoking too! I remember once he went out at night and I purposely followed him quietly. I wanted to check whether he would go out to drink but he did not. Instead, he was sharing the gospel with his friends in a coffee shop. Oh, thank the Lord! He really has changed and I do not have to worry about him anymore. As a mother, I do not ask for good food or a big house. I just wish that my children would live a wonderful life. I believe that all parents have the same wish. The changes in my eldest son took away a lot of my burdens.
Praise God, today my son and I are here to be baptised. I have decided to put my trust in Jesus and will never turn back. If it were not for His precious blood, I would not be able to live until today. It is because only He can wash away my sins and give me joy and hope. I am no longer in despair but rejoicing. The words in the Bible have now come alive in me, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Thank the Lord. May all glory belong to the Lord. Amen.
I was really touched during the service and teared for I witness and sense such an immense joy and life changing experience in the lives of the baptism candidates. Truly a meaningful service.

A responsible life
___________________________________________________________________________
I gave her full marks for her honesty.
When the CEO of a Multi National Company was interviewed, this is what she said about work-life balance. (She is a mother of two.)
“’The fact is there are certain times in your career when your family will have to take the back seat,’ she said. A career woman needed to have ‘super discipline’ to strike a balance and that rarely happened in real life. “As long as you know your family is paying the price, don’t moan over it and try to offset your absence with money or expensive stuffs,’ she said.”
Let me say up front that this is not a woman issue. Children, for example, need both fathers and mothers. Indeed it may very will be the fact that the CEO was a woman that the work-life balance question came up at all. The interviewer may not have even raised the issue if it had
been a man.
I also credit her for acting intentionally. She knew what the costs were for herself and for her family, and she had made her choices. Many would have ended up doing exactly the same thing blindly, going with the flow, unthinking.
But is the balanced life really an unachievable ideal meant only for a few super disciplined people? For most of us it certainly feels that way. Everyday we are torn by demands from all quarters and feel, well, quartered.
Every once in awhile we make a fresh resolution to live a more balanced life. Such resolutions usually last until the next crisis at work or at home.
Time management seminars only add to the guilt. Time management gurus at expensive seminars hold before us the holy grail of the balanced life. They teach us how to find that grail. We leave such seminars energized and hopeful. Until our next crisis at work or at home.
In a lead article in FAST COMPANY (October 2004), Keith H.Hammonds, deputy editor, tells us to forget about the balanced life. He says: "The truth is, balance is a bunk. It is an unattainable pipe dream, a vain artifice that offers mostly rhetorical solutions to problems of logistics and economics. The quest for balance between work and life, as we've come to think of it, isn't just a losing proposition; it's a hurtful, destructive one."
He goes on to say that: "Life is about setting priorities and and making trade-offs; that's what grown ups do. But in our all-or-nothing culture, resorting to those sorts of decisions is too often seen as a kind of failure. Seeking balance, we strive for achievement everywhere, all
the time --- and we feel guilty and stressed out when, inevitably, we fall short."
I like a lot of what Hammonds says. Indeed, if a balanced life means having it all, it sounds more like a desire to be god-like, living without limits, than a desire to work towards a biblical understanding of shalom.
But what Hammonds seem to go on to say is that since a balanced life is a myth, let's live an unbalanced life and ditch the guilt. He goes on to point out that there are happy workaholics out there whose lives are totally unbalanced and that is perfectly acceptable as long as they are happy.
I am sure Hammond would applaud the CEO mentioned earlier, who had also given up any attempt to live a balanced life. For her, as for many others, work came first. Family can and
indeed should be neglected at this chapter in their lives.
What is a Christian to say about Mr. Hammonds' analysis about the balanced life?
For one, I found that Mr. Hammonds doesn't seem to work out of any sense of a commitment to authoritative revealed truth. If he is a Christian, he doesn't show it. For him, humankind is finally answerable to no one but themselves.
Yes a balanced life is unattainable but it is up to you to decide what areas of life you want to neglect at any point of our life. You are the boss of your own life. You decide and there is no need to feel guilty about whatever or whoever you are neglecting. (I guess we can't completely get rid of guilt since even the CEO interviewed felt the need to compensate her children for her neglect with " money and expensive stuffs.")
Well, if a balanced life is unattainable, what is a Christian to do?
I suggest that instead of chasing some impossible balanced life, we work towards living a responsible life.
In the book of Ephesians, Paul talks about the various responsibilities of a Christian.
*Towards the church (4:11-16)
*Towards spouses (5:22-33)
*Towards parents (6:1-3)
*Towards children (6:4)
*Towards masters/bosses? (6:5-8)
*Towards slaves/subordinates? (6:9)
I know it is difficult to translate ethical injunctions from Paul's time to ours and I am sure the list is not meant to be exhaustive. For example, we also have responsibilities to our friends, to our country, to the environment, etc.
But Paul's approach is clear. Life in Christ is defined by a number of key roles and the responsibilities that come with those roles. Therefore, as I seek to live a responsible life, I will first list down all the key roles in my life. (Stephen R Covey suggests that we have a maximum of seven key roles).
As I look towards a coming week, I ask myself, what are some things I need to do for each of my key roles, for me to continue to be a responsible person accountable to God?
For example, in this coming week, as a father, what are some things I need to be doing with my boys to qualify as a responsible father? As a responsible son to my widowed mother, are there some things I need to do? As a responsible teacher and writer for God, what do I have to do this week?
This was how some of the questions were answered this week.
No. 2 son was down with a fever. I had to get him from school, take him to the doctor, sit up with him, pray for him. No.1 son had just started his university studies. I grabbed him for a quick chat about how he might want to manage his time now that he was starting university.
I called my mum in Penang as I normally do every Monday evening. I noted that her cough was still bad and that she had had it for more than a month. I nagged her about getting
an x-ray.
I did some writing for my Doctor of Ministry final project. And then there were two sermons to prepare for. And this ecommentary to write.
Was it a balanced week? No. There were a number of people I needed to call. I didn't. There were a number of emails I should have replied. I didn't. And I didn't get to enjoy the new DVD player that a good friend had given us.
I didn't do many other things I should have done.
I take it that there will be no perfection this side of heaven. So I try not to feel guilty that there were a number of things I had neglected. But I had tried to live responsibly.
The quest to live responsibly can be sabotaged by perfectionism as well as by sloth. I take it as a given that some weeks will be better than others. As in many things, learning to live a responsible life will be a life long journey of growth in wisdom. And we will need the help of others.
Still, desiring to live a responsible life sure feels much better than say, ignoring my boys for six months while I try to finish my final project. That would be plain irresponsible.
It would be irresponsible to seek to be perfect in the performance of any one role (work? church?) to the total neglect of my other roles. Such irresponsibility is no expression of the Spirit filled life (Ephesians 5:18).
God wants us to live better.
He wants us to be responsible.

Today started out rather heart wrenching. Firstly a friend was bombarded on why she wants to leave a certain department to be a mum and why does she even need to adjust or cope? I wonder to myself whether you have been so set in your ways till you forget to be sensitive to others who are trying to do their best.
You still haven't waken up from your sleep and asked yourself why your leaders are leaving your side and unwilling to fight the battle with you! Shame on you to not acknowledge them as human beings but as things/ tools to get what you want.
Some other disturbing news of how this same department (Dept 1) is making another department (Dept 2) move its entire force to organise and administrate an event which does not involve Dept 2. I am sad to say I am disgusted to be part of Dept 1 to see it come to such a horrible state that causes such nuisance and problems to others. And I understand that Dept 1 isnt even doing anything for their own event.
Shame on you for causing so much grief and pain to other people around you. And shame on those who allow you to do so and encourage you to continue to be selfish. Bad enough that you don't help others, worst that you cause others to suffer. Shame on you. A real shame.
Sigh. I am speechless. But these are signs that the decision made and the word from God was right.
May we leave in peace.
God bless the people who have tried their best but yet suffer for the wrongdoings and insensitivity of others.

Preview of my pre wed shots

Last Monday (4th August 2008), Meng and I awoke early with much excitement and glee for our pre wed shoot. Contrary to belief that pre wed shots are extremely exhausting and absolutely dreadful, we were on the other extreme whereby we were giggling all the way (with the occasional moments of Meng Hong dying of heat during the outdoor shots).

We're thrilled to have Alex Moi to be our photographer. Over the course of time, we are glad we sparked a mutual (I hope) chemistry and we love the fact you were so open to our ideas and we're able to bring life and who we are out in the pictures.
Last but not least, a hearty thank you to Julie Teoh for spending so much time on my pre wed shots make up, testing all sorts of colours, styles, etc to ensure I was comfortable and as natural as can be. Really appreciate the fact I wasn't dolled up =p.
I am over the moon and in much anticipation to see the finished product of the pre wed shots.
Soon to come......
P/S: do leave comments on my wedding photographer's blog as well if you like his work as an encouragement to him ya.

Introducing Eumora Facial Bar

Just wanna intro a facial product to you. Meng Hong's cousin's company manufactures beauty and healthcare products. And Meng Hong is helping his cousin in the business.
Currently the company's best selling facial product is the Eumora. Details of it is as stated below. Personally have started using it and it's been working (after trying numerous other things) so thought I'd share with you.
EUMORA
Eumora is a beauty facial bar combining the detoxifying properties of tiefenmoor enhanced with H-ma (microalgae) factor, created with top European biotechnology.
5 benefits of the Eumora bar are:
- Firms, lifts & put shines on the face.
- Reduces & closes up big facial pores.
- Removes free radicals & toxins from your face & hair & replenishes them with the right nutrients.
- Saves on toner, cleanser, shampoo, shaving cream, etc.
- Enhances facial complexion, very potent & shows significant improvement after using it a few times.
More info on MOOR
Eumore is made with "Tiefen or Deep Moor" from
In the 16th Century, the famous alchemist Paracelsus, described Moor as the "Quinta Essentia Vitae" which he believed was the elixir of life.
Hundreds of herbs, organic compounds, trace elements, plant hormones, natural antibiotics, & other biologically active matter combine to produce one of nature's miracles, the thick rich Moor.
The synergy of these natural organic substances gives the Deep Moor its "miracle" therapuetic, rejuvenating qualities, one of nature's most potent therapuetic and detoxifying substances.
The Moor's benefits are:-
- it penetrates the skin easily, re-establishing the skin's natural pH balance, & increasing its flow of blood to the skin.
- the skin is detoxified, purified, toned and revitalized by soluble organic & inorganic nutirents.
- its clinically tested & found to be naturally hypoallergic & to be able to harmonise with & benefit any skin type, eliminating the need for many different types of cream.
H-ma benefits are:-
- actively heals and protects.
- penetrates deeply and hydrates continuously.
- most complete nutritional value on earth.
- allows high permeatibility and fast absorption.
- clears external irritants and pollutions.
The Company's website is http://www.esabee.biz .
Kindly find the website for checking the Eumora facial bar notification:
http://www.bpfk.gov.my/Search/Search_product.asp
Pls type Eumora under Product Search and click on Search button.
The company name is the name of our manufacturer.
The reason why the product may seem a little more high end is because of the ingrdients being imported from
The company also has fibre stuff, etc. But so far this is the best seller in Msia.
Though I'd share cos personally found it was good. It all started cos I was having bad bad skin and Mhong was looking out for stuff for me to try and since his counsin is in this line hence he bought one for me and I do see improvements. So because I beleive in it as well as want to help Mhong and the cousin, I am promoting and selling the product.
If you're interested, please do let me know.
Thanks.
